Lymphoma has many non-site specific symptoms and patients can often visit primary care services a number of times before they are referred. There are two main types of lymphoma: Hodgkin (HL) and non-Hodgkin (NHL). Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is more common but Hodgkin lymphoma tends to affect younger people. Low-grade NHLs usually develop more slowly, while high-grade NHLs develop more quickly.
Our course will support you to:
- Recognise and monitor a neck lump (a key symptom associated with lymphoma) and other associated symptoms
- Increase knowledge and confidence about what type of investigations are most appropriate
- Explore how to talk honestly about referral with patients and how to support them through the process
- Examine the use of language and question type to help elicit patient history and symptoms
Supporting a patient during a suspected cancer referral can be challenging. Our course includes a full interview with David Wright, Lead Nurse for Teenagers and Young Adults, which explores how to support a young person during the referral process.
