Cancer Keys

Ovarian cancer and persistent bloating

Published: 26th July 2022

Potential pitfall:

Persistent bloating is a common presenting symptom of ovarian cancer. Therefore, a potential missed diagnostic opportunity can occur if this is not investigated.

Helpful hint:

NICE NG12 guidelines recommends carrying out tests in primary care if a woman (especially if 50 or over) reports having persistent abdominal distension (women often refer to this as ‘bloating’), on a persistent or frequent basis – particularly if more than 12 times per month.
